Global Privacy Control (GPC)

Honor browser opt-out signals automatically

When a visitor’s browser or extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, Optacy treats it as a valid opt-out of the sale or sharing of personal information. No banner click required.

What Is Global Privacy Control?

GPC is a browser-level signal that tells websites a visitor does not want their personal information sold or shared. Browsers and extensions such as Firefox, Brave, and DuckDuckGo send it, and several U.S. state privacy laws require businesses to treat it as a valid opt-out request.

How Optacy Handles GPC

The signal is honored the moment a visitor arrives, following the same rules as the rest of your banner.

  • Detected on Page Load

Optacy detects the GPC signal as the page loads and applies the opt-out before advertising and marketing tags fire.

  • Applied by Jurisdiction

GPC is honored in every state whose privacy law recognizes it, including California (CCPA/CPRA), Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, and more, following your Jurisdiction Rules.

  • Saved to Consent Preferences

The opt-out is reflected in the visitor’s consent preferences so the choice stays consistent across your stack.

Respect Every Opt-Out Signal

Pair GPC with Jurisdiction Rules and auto-blocking so opt-outs are honored before a single tracker runs.

Global Privacy Control (GPC) FAQ

Optacy applies GPC according to your Jurisdiction Rules, honoring the signal in every state whose privacy law recognizes it, including California (CCPA/CPRA), Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, and more. Jurisdiction Rules detect each visitor’s location and serve the matching legal framework, so a single banner can treat GPC as an opt-out of sale or sharing in those states while following the applicable framework elsewhere.

Optacy detects the signal as the page loads and applies the opt-out before advertising and marketing tags fire, following the same rules as the rest of your banner. The visitor doesn’t need to click anything. The opt-out is then saved to the visitor’s consent preferences, so the choice stays consistent across your stack.

Both let consumers opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal information. GPC is a browser-level signal that Optacy’s banner honors automatically. A Do Not Sell link is a footer link that points to Optacy’s webform, which supports Do Not Sell My Personal Information requests. Optacy skips identity verification for that right by default, so those requests don’t wait on a verification step.
